War In Afghanistan Not Internal Issue, President Ghani

Kabul (BNA) Addressing the 52nd Munich Security Conference on Friday, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said that threats raised from terrorism is indeed the fifth political wave of violence since 9/11 incident.
The conference which was attended by a number of world leaders, the president said that to fight such wave, it is important to utilize the past experiences, adding that sans intelligence services’ cooperation and available forces, we would repeat the past mistakes. Pointing to conflicts in Afghanistan, the president adding that war in the country is not an internal problem, but is indeed a regional and global issue, saying that the desirable individuals from Russia, China, Central Asian countries, in particular from Pakistan coming to Afghanistan and intensifying the ongoing conflicts. Pointing to Daesh emergence, the president said that in his last year’s remarks in Munich Security Conference he has warned world on new emerging threat of the so-called IS militants, which was to attract attentions on Afghanistan, where now the world cannot ignore it. “Al-Qaeda has not yet finished. World focus on ISIS has given Al-Qaeda the opportunity to equip them and today we need to fight the new threats being imposed by the group”, the president said, thanking the 40 countries’ leaders, in particular, the USA, Germany, UK and Italy for their continued support of Afghanistan within the framework of the Resolute Support Mission.
The president also said that through mutual and multilateral mechanisms, steps have been taken to improve ties with regional countries such as China, the central Asian countries of Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan as well as India, Iran, Russia and Turkey so that to bring stability in the country which is in the interest of all the regional countries. Pointing to Mecca declaration, the president said that Islam is a big religion and it is important that who can represent the history, culture and Islamic civilization and who can speak from its address, adding that a forum should be organized for carrying out of joint cooperation and security would be not achieved through war, unless efforts to be made through governments. Besides pointing to ANSF achievements, the President said that the Islamic State (IS) extremist group has suffered many casualties and is “on the run” in Afghanistan. The president also added that an IS-operated radio station in eastern Afghanistan has been silenced and the group has also lost 150 of its fighters. At the end, the president said that Afghan people’s capabilities and their historic braveries give us the confidence to overcome the fifth wave of the violence, asking the governments and international institutions to help Afghanistan in war on terror.
