47% Prisoners Claim They Have Been Tortured: Fact Finding Mission

Kabul (BNA) The Fact Finding Mission headed by Abdul Qadir Adalatkhah which visited several jails and detention centers in Kabul,  Herat and Kandahar provinces in the wake of UN report told a press conference yesterday that 47 percent of prisoners claimed they have been tortured. 
The UN report which released recently said that detainees complained of being tortured in Afghanistan prisons.  In line with presidential order, the commission visited several jails and discussed with 284 detainees, out of these, 148 detainees claimed they had been tortured during arrest and investigation. 
Adalatkha also said at the press conference that investigation during 15-day visit of the jails indicates that 66 percent of detainees are deprived of their legal services.  He also noted that detainees had rejected sexual assault in prisons, but health services are poor and some prisoners are sick and even in need of surgery. 
Even the prison term of some detainees has been completed but yet to be released, he further said. 
Adalatkha also noted that the president had shown his support to the report and would preside a judicial meeting on Wednesday to seek solution for detainee’s problems.
