Independent Human Rights Commission has released its Annual Report on Civilian Casualties in 2020

Kabul (BNA) In year 2020, two thousand nine hundred and fifty-eight people were killed and five thousand five hundred and forty-two others were injured.

The Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) today released its “Annual Report on Civilian Deaths in 2020”. As in previous years, the report states that the use of grenades, roadside mines, targeted assassinations, rocket attacks, suicide bombings, ground warfare and airstrikes has resulted in heavy casualties and property damage to civilians.

Occasionally, bullets and unexploded ordnance have been killed civilians, especially children. Expressing concern over the increase in civilian casualties of the war, the Commission also stressed the need to end the violence, establish a ceasefire and achieve a just and lasting peace, and calls on the parties involved to respect the fundamental principles and rules of international law and to be held accountable for their actions.
