Afghans Optimistic on Peace Negotiations between Govt., Hezb-I-Islami

Tuesday August 9, 2016

Kabul (BNA) A delegation of Hezb-i-Islami has once again come to Kabul to continue negotiations on peace process with the government of national unity.
A number of MPs believe there is no any problem left to halt the government negotiations with Hezb-i-Islami led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar. This time, the people of Afghanistan expect Hekmatyar to hereafter live in Kabul and stop war against the government. This is while that two months ago, a 25-article soft copy of peace agreement was sent to the faction’s leader by the government of Afghanistan, but a delegation of Hezb-i-Islami told media it will take time to consult with other members on it. Now, it seems Hezb-i-Islami to have consulted with other members and is decisive to enter peace negotiations without interferences of aliens.
Earlier, based on rumors, it was said that the negotiations with Hezb-i-Islami faction to have faced with deadlock, as the government of Afghanistan has repeatedly said it won’t negotiate with those oppose of the country’s constitution. But, the people of Afghanistan expect the government to be flexible and should not lose the opportunity with such a big armed group, or it will again continue war to kill the innocents. Therefore, now the government should focus on its domestic problems and figure them out at its earliest, or the deceived-Afghans would restart armed conflicts—a move that would negatively affect the country. This time the government should not discuss small issues cause to disrupt the peace negotiation with Hezb-i-Islami and talk on them after the agreement made between both sides.
Recently, Pakistan has seriously step up against such groups and announced it would not let them to establish bases and training centers in its soil any longer. Therefore, the government of Afghanistan should avail the opportunity and consider its benefits. Afghans are sick of war and ask the government of national unity to help them out of the war imposed by regional and the world intelligence. It is worth mentioning that both sides should show flexibility, as the international community, particularly the U.S. imposed pressures on Pakistan and halted $300mln assistance to it which was paid to fight Haqqani Network and Quetta council and warned if Pakistan continues its current policy, it will lose all advantages. Joining Hezb-i-Islami faction to peace process will also cause other insurgent groups to be consecutively encouraged and enthusiastically give up war and join the process, but there is a question that would war in Afghanistan end if Hezb-i-Islami join peace process, or not?  The people of Afghanistan believe that after the Taliban and Daesh, Hekmatyar leads one of the largest insurgent factions in Afghanistan. The people are optimistic this time to hear positive news on negotiations between the government of Afghanistan and Hezb-i-Islami, and expect the faction doesn’t fight against the political system any longer.
