Kabul (BNA) Chairing the council of ministers here at the Sapidar Palace on Monday, Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah said Afghans were willing peace in the holy month of Ramadan, but Taliban rejected this call and continued their militancy campaign.
Delivering his inaugural remarks, Dr. Abdullah blamed Taliban for intensification of war in the country, adding Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) bravely defending the country and its people.
“Taliban martyred one of the country’s general Abdul Ghafoor Khan Mahmood who was deputy head of NDS for Baghlan province and was meanwhile father of prominent journalist Latif Mahmood.
I extend my condolence to his family,” Dr. Abdullah said.
Chief Executive went on saying that bold steps for durable peace in the country have not yet taken, calling Taliban the main barrier before peace in the country.
Hinting to upcoming presidential elections, Dr. Abdullah reiterated National Unity Government’s commitment to timely holding of the presidential elections, saying the electoral commission had proper planning and people whiling transparency in the process.
“We expect the election commission to speed up the preparations and present their programs.
We do also expect ANDSF and the relevant organs to accomplish their given tasks,” CE Abdullah said, adding efforts underway to prevent use of government facilities in favor of presidential candidates.
Meanwhile the security organs, ministries, and independent general directorates presented their reports of activities to the council of ministers meeting.
Dr. Abdullah at the end ordered necessary instructions to the organs concerned to improve their works and coordination s well as prevent delay in implementation of the projects.
