Australia Reiterates Support for Afghan Peace Process

Kabul (BNA) The President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, held a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Australia, Scott Morrison, yesterday morning, a presidential press office statement said.

During the telephone conversation, bilateral relations between Afghanistan and Australia and the ongoing peace process were discussed and both sides strongly rejected Taliban’s violence in the country, according to the statement.

The Australian prime minister said the Taliban should accept the ceasefire, which is the right of the Afghan people, and strongly condemned the ongoing targeted killings. He added that his country supports the ongoing Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process in which the achievements and values ​​of the past two decades are not only maintained but should be strengthened.

President Ghani, as quoted in the statement, thanked Australia for its generous assistance in various fields and support for the peace process, and called the country a good friend and an important international ally for Afghanistan.
