Kabul (BNA) The Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Haneef Atmar held a telephone conversation on Monday afternoon with the British Minister of State for South Asia and the Commonwealth and United Nations, Lord Tariq Ahmad, a MoFA statement said yesterday.
The two sides discussed the peace process, the continuation of cooperation between the two countries following the withdrawal of Resolute Support forces from Afghanistan, and also exchanged views on efforts to maintain a regional consensus in support of peace talks between the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban, according to the statement.
Pleased with the recovery of the Minister of Foreign Affairs from the Coronavirus, Lord Ahmed strongly condemned the brutal terrorist attack in Logar province that killed and injured dozens of defenseless citizens during the holy month of Ramadan. He expressed his condolences to the government and people of Afghanistan and the families of the victims and those injured in the bloody incident.
Appreciating Lord Ahmed’s condolences and sympathies for the government and people of Afghanistan and the families of the victims of the terrorist attack, FM Atmar said that that ensuring stability and the success of the peace process were important priorities of the Afghan government.
He expressed hope that Britain would continue to support the Afghan government and people after the withdrawal of US and NATO forces from the country.
At the end of the telephone conversation, Lord Tariq Ahmad emphasized the continuation of British cooperation with the government and people of Afghanistan after the withdrawal of the Resolute Support forces from the country. He also said that reduction of violence and establishment of a ceasefire and regional consensus in support of peace talks were necessary for the success of the peace process and ensuring stability in Afghanistan.
