COVID-19: Ministry Reports 1,236 New Cases, 58 Deaths in Afghanistan

Kabul (BNA)  The Ministry of Public Health on Monday reported 1,236 new cases of COVID-19 out of 3,603 samples tested in the last 24 hours. The ministry also reported 58 deaths and 1,509 recoveries from COVID-19 in the same period.

The number of total recorded cases is 135,889 and the total number of deaths is 5,849, according to figures by the Public Health Ministry.

Last week, Afghanistan received 1.48 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine provided by the US. The Ministry of Public Health said the implementation of the vaccine was started in the country’s health centers on Saturday.

This is the first of two vaccine consignments to arrive this month, bringing the total donation to around 3.3 million doses. Johns Hopkins University reports that the number of deaths from COVID-19 globally is more than 4,033,883 and the number of known global coronavirus cases is 186,902,683.
