Deputy PM: Five million Afghans, Including one Million Women & Minors are Addicted to Drugs

KABUL (BNA) Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, Deputy Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, met this afternoon with Ms. Madeleine Seidler, Deputy directo of the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and her accompanying delegation.

In the meeting, Hanafi said, “We hope to closely examine the situation of Afghan women who have been affected by the war, so that we can work together to address their problems and reduce the effects of past wars.”
“Five million Afghans are addicted to drugs, one million of whom are women and children. “If the international community helps our farmers with alternative livelihoods, we are determined to stop drugs and we want the continuation of IRC.

Yesterday, we closely monitored the situation of hospitals in Kabul and Logar provinces, which need further attention, and we will continue our humanitarian activities in Afghanistan.
In the meeting, Ms. Weki Aken, Head of ICRC in Afghanistan, said that providing health services to disadvantaged areas is one of our priorities. He also put forward his proposals for better performance of the activities of the mentioned institution.
“Apart from educating women and children, we are also working on women’s financial self-sufficiency,” said Zahra Wardak, ICRC deputy director in Afghanistan. The support of officials from various government departments has increased our interest in working further, and we are sharing such positive steps with other international institutions.
At the end of the meeting, Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi said that the Islamic Emirate supports women’s rights and that the Amir al-Mu’minin’s supreme decree clearly states the status, value and protection of women. our policy is to preserve the dignity, honor and dignity of every Afghan and to live in a safe environment in the country. He added that in order to support the programs and create the necessary facilities for you, the necessary instructions will be issued to the relevant authorities.
