Deputy PM meets Director-General of ICRC

KABUL (BNA) Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, Deputy Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate met with Robert Mardini, Dirctor General of the International Committee the Red Cross and his accompanying delegation.

Expressing gratitude from the Islamic Emirate’s co-operation, Robert Mardini, Director General the ICRC in Geneva. provide detials about, saying “Doctors’ salaries have been paid to 28 hospitals in 11 provinces, and through the Ministry of Public Health, 110 clinics continue to assist and cooperate, and we have paid monthly salaries to 10,000 nurses across Afghanistan.

Mardini added that we are working to encourage the international community to increase not only humanitarian aid, but also economic and development assistance, and that Afghanistan’s banking system should resume normal operations.

He added that the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) stands with the Afghans and that we will increase our budget by the end of this year to increase cooperation with other sectors.

Welcoming the Director General of the ICRC in Geneva and his accompanying delegation, Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, Deputy Prime Minister, said that the Afghan people had suffered a lot during the 43-year war and that the services and activities of the International Committee of the Red Cross were commendable.

Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi called on the International Committee of the Red Cross to further cooperate in treating and assisting the families of five million addicts, one million of whom are women and children, and to provide employment for them. Deputy of prime minister said: “The policy of the Islamic Emirate is that no body would Afghanistan soil against any other country, and the work, life and dignity of Afghans inside the country is safe.”

He added that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has developed a procedure to strengthen the banking system and called on the international community to cooperate in this regard.

Mawlawi Hanafi added in his recent speech that Afghanistan, as a member of the United Nations, wants to have good relations with all countries and is committed to expanding these relations on the basis of mutual respect.
