Deputy PM Meets UNICEF Delegation

KABUL (BNA) Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, Deputy Political of Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan met with UNICEF Representative for Afghanistan and Deborah Lyons at Sepidar Palace. In this meeting, the UNICEF Executive Director briefed on UNICEF’s activities over the past few decades in the sector of education, food, polio and health, saying that Afghanistan is valuable as ever and that is why I made my first visit to the country.

She added that educating children is our priority and to this end we encourage cash donations to teachers and thank the Ministry of Education for paying their five-month salaries.

receiving the UNICEF Executive Director and his accompanying delegation, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir thanked UNICEF for its services and activities in Afghanistan over the past 65 years and Catherine Russell’s first visit to Afghanistan, adding that the Islamic Emirate supports the education of children.

He added that the Islamic Emirate does not allow minors in its ranks and instead supports the education of children. The efforts of the high-ranking Taliban delegation to rescue a child who fell into a well in Zabul province show the value and committement of the Islamic Emirate toward safety of children and their lives. We support UNICEF effective programs that do not conflict with Islamic law.

During the meeting, the UNICEF Executive Director said that we understand that the Islamic Emirate does not send children to war, nor does it support their work, which is our common value, Children need more attention in the field of education and health, and we are your partner in this field. We want to work with the government for a better future for children.

The deputy political prime minister said that as private universities opening, public universities have starts and the process of reopening girls’ schools continues. We want girls to go to school like boys. The woman has the status of our mother, sister and daughter, she is very respectful to us and we support their education.

During the meeting, the UN Special Representative for Afghanistan said that a positive case of polio has been recorded throughout Afghanistan this year and called on the Islamic Emirate to cooperate in the fight against polio. Zero polio in Afghanistan will be an important achievement for the government and a great message to the world.

In the meeting, the UNICEF Executive Director said that in addition to the health of the child and the mother, public awareness of the coronavirus and the implementation of the measles vaccine is important. We thank the officials of the Islamic Emirate for providing us with access to remote areas. We understand that humanitarian services and assistance reach the right and deserving people in the right way.

He added that at the conference to be held in March, we will attract more aid to Afghanistan. Also to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNICEF) and the United Arab Emirates’s positive role in accessing education, health, food delivery and coordination; We will provide information. At the end of the meeting, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs, referred to the remarks of the UN envoys and said that such actions would be a great cooperation with Afghanistan and that the Islamic Emirate would support sharing positive activities with the international community.
