Dozens of Militants Martyred in Ghazni, Kandahar Clashes

Kabul (BNA) Nearly 60 Taliban insurgents have been killed in clashes with the security forces in Ghazni and Kandahar provinces, officials said in Friday.

According to spokesman for the Ghazni governor, the militants stormed a security check-post around midnight in  Qarabagh district. The rebels faced strong resistance from the Afghan Air Force (AAF). In the ensuing airstrike, 30 attackers were killed and 10 others wounded, the officials said.

He added the bodies of several fighters were still lying at the battle scene. The security forces also seized arms and ammunition from the insurgents.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said in a statement that 29 Taliban were killed in the Arghandab district of southern Kandahar province.

In a clash with the security forces, the ministry added, at least four fighters were wounded and their attack repulsed. A huge quantity of fighters’ weapons was destroyed.

The Taliban have said nothing yet about the government’s claim of inflicting casualties on the insurgents.
