President Ghani Praises EU Stance on Afghanistan

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met on Thursday morning with Tomas Niklasson, EU Special Representative for Afghanistan, at the presidential palace, a statement said yesterday.
During the meeting, Niklasson welcomed the start of his mission and assured EU of continued assistance and cooperation with the Afghan people and system in various areas, including the peace process and economic and development programs, the presidential palace statement added.
Welcoming Niklasson, President Ghani praised EU’s principled stance on Afghanistan, saying “we have common values and issues such as the protection of women’s rights, the preservation of the achievements of the past two decades and the protection of human rights that have connected us more than ever.”
At the end of the meeting, the President and the EU Special Representative for Afghanistan discussed the peace process and the next steps in this regard, the statement added.
This comes as deputy in a virtual meeting with deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Mirwais Nab, EU Political and Security Committee Head Sofia Emmesberger, and Ambassadors of the European Union member states in Belgium, discussed the latest developments on political and security affairs in Afghanistan, the Afghan Peace Process, and the dynamics of cooperation’s endurance between Afghanistan and the EU, and assured their political and diplomatic presence in Kabul post foreign troops withdrawal.
