CE, SIGAR Chief Discuss On Rooting Out Corruption In Afghanistan

Kabul (BNA) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan met yesterday with John Sopko, Chief of SIGAR here in Kabul.
At the meeting held at Sapidar palace, SIGAR chief offered his last report to Afghanistan chief executive and briefed related to SIGAR’s activities in Afghanistan.
Sopko said, “They are ready to help Afghanistan government in rooting out corruption in the country, hoping the government will share its views, suggestions and accounts in relevant fields with us.”
Afterwards, Dr. Abdullah said Afghanistan national unity government has taken necessary steps towards rooting out corruption and transparency.
Chief executive added they would strongly struggle against corruption, hoping that SIGAR would also provide necessary cooperation to Afghan government in this regard.
Dr. Abdullah further said Afghanistan government hoped SIGAR would play positive role in prevention of corruption and share results of its inspections in relevant sections with the government.
Chief executive added that Afghanistan government needed a particular strategy for prevention of corruption and promotion of transparency and would work in this regard and asked SIGAR chief to pay consideration to long-term projects rather than short-term ones and prevent from execution of second-hand projects.
According to another report, chief executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah went to Kabul Zarnegar Park and offered sympathy to a number of passengers’ families fastening tents in protest of releasing the 31 passengers recently kidnapped by armed individuals in Zabul province.
