EU Ambassador Calls For Fulfillment of Commitments Made By Afghanistan At London Conference

Kabul (BNA) The European Union (EU) ambassador to Afghanistan in meeting with the President special envoy on reforms and good governance Ahmad Zia Masoud here yesterday said that the government of national unity has to fulfill its commitments made at London Conference to win the trust of EU and other international agencies for more support. At the meeting matters pertaining institutionalizing good governance and bringing reforms were discussed and Zia Masoud apprised the EU diplomat on formation of commissions to bring reforms, saying essential steps for reforms and institutionalizing good governance would soon be taken. The commissions for balanced urban development, managing water resources as the example of government’s pledge at London Conference have already been formed and the government is committed to act upon its commitments made at the conference. According to another report, Ahmad Zia Masoud met the deputy for UNDP here yesterday. In the meeting, the UN official termed accountability and transparency as important for good governance and said that the government is accountable for providing better services to its citizens, saying the civil society and media should be aware so as to build trust between people and the government. The UNDP deputy also stated that bringing reforms should begin from judiciary and the courts have to share its decisions with regard to corruption and embezzlement cases and the civil society entities. The President special envoy on reforms and good governance said that the government is committed to ensure transparency and accountability, adding practical steps have been taken to reform judicial system in the country.
