Kabul (BNA) Aimal Faizi, presidential spokesperson has congratulated the 95th anniversary of Independence Day to the people of Afghanistan on Tuesday.
In his message the president said that 95 years ago on August 19, 1919 the independence document of Afghanistan was inked by King Amanullah Khan and since then the day has been marked as Independence Day.
Afghanistan was the first country that obtained his freedom from the British Empire as it paved the way for other nations to follow the step.
Our history will never forget the heroic sacrifices of those fought for the freedom of the country and their names are registered in our prideful history, the president said in his message.
This year, the Independence Day is marked while Afghans are waiting to see the results of the presidential elections and the new president, the president said, adding the election results should be announced in its earliest so to enable Afghans to take another step towards democracy.
