Former Governor Wahidi Released in Pakistan

Kabul (BNA) The former provincial governor of western Herat province Fazlullah Wahidi has been released in Pakistan, nearly three weeks after he was abducted by unknown gunmen, sources said, adding that Wahidi was handed over to Afghan consulate in Peshawar city.
Wahidi was handed over in the early hours of Friday morning, however the circumstances surrounding his release have not been ascertained so far. It is also not clear who had kidnapped Wahidi who went missing from the vicinity of Islamabad on 12th February.
According to the authorities in Pakistan, Wahidi was on a visit along with his family when he was kidnapped by the gunmen. Wahidi has previously served as the governor of eastern Kunar and western Herat provinces of Afghanistan.
During holding governor position in Kunar, he has always criticized Pakistan for cross border shelling and asking the government to take a clear action against such firings.
