WHO Celebrates Apr 7Th The World Health Day

Wednesday April 8, 2015

Kabul (BNA) 7th of Apr the world health day is marked every year in different countries. In such a day in 1948, the first constitution of International Health Conference was codified in New York by the WHO.
In June of the same year, the first General Assembly of WHO was held with participation of representatives of over sixty one countries in Genera and ever since this day has been marking regularly every year throughout the world. The health problem has been always a hard talk in the world countries and this issue has been inserted in socio, economic and cultural development long term programs of these countries. In the major cities improvement of current medical facilities and establishment of new centers according to urgent needs of population, supply of food and health facilities have always been among basic elements of government services. To achieve this urgent issue and basic objective, the concerned ministries of public health and relevant branches based on their responsibilities have to take steps to establish new facilities. Today the health situation in the capital city is in a pitiable condition despite of the serious activities of the MoPH in the last over one decade. The unpleasant health situation in the capital especially production of ready fast foods have seriously threaten the health and life of capital citizens.
Despite of this circumstances, unfortunately an essential and extensive research has not be made on current incidents to find that based on which how many people and countrymen and women lose their lives every year due to lack of health services. One year before, the concerned authorities of the MoPH disclosed this reality. What is clear today is that these conditions have not changed considerably.  According to MoPH relevant authorities over half of Afghan children are suffering of different    forms of malnutrition. Afghanistan is among those countries in which 38 cases of polio have officially been recorded. No doubt general cultural activities and awareness giving programs on observance of food safety have also been gravely insufficient which have seriously reduced observance of health rules at general social level. Attention should be focused on the recommendations of WHO on observance of food standards and certain programs should be undertaken. The MoPH should take steps to institutionalize foods public access of (people to healthy and sufficient food) improvement of people nutrition, reduction of malnutrition borne diseases and improvement of social health, in current year and implement the following measures:
1- Specific supervising measures are taken, particular work teams on observation of health issues be created in restaurants and pharmacies and other places and supply of foods on road sides should be stopped and prevented.
2- To remove malnutrition of low income families, employment opportunities and assistance should be provided and long term programs are undertaken to remove their medical requirements.
3- The Afghanistan Nation Standard Agency (ANSA) should be tasked to complete food safety regulation for improvement of people health level and cooperate the MoPH on observance on production quality and issuance and supply of food cooperate with the MoPH.
4- A suitable food stuff and national nutrition structure should be prepared and be implemented actively following the approval of the MoPH.
Otherwise the celebration of World Health Day doesn’t worth marking. Noori
