“Massive Corruption Exists In Contracts, But These Are Not Concluded By Afghanistan”: President Karzai

Saturday, December 08, 2012
Kabul (BNA) President Hamid Karzai answering a question in an interview with the NBXC TV network that the International Transparency Organization has considered Afghanistan, Lorea and Somalia as the most corrupt countries, stressed that no doubt that corruption exists in Afghanistan and we are witness to this than any other time, however, the massive corruption lies in the contracts that are not concluded by the government Afghanistan, but it is made by the international community, especially the US and given to others.
He added that a part of the corruption emanates from assumptions and discussions that are misused for weakening the government of Afghanistan and this is the belief that I got following years of experience.  He stressed further that there is administrative corruption that we are struggling against it, however, whether this corruption is the product and outcome of the Afghans or others are involved in this phenomenon?
We are to be blamed, but the international community is to be blamed the most indeed.
He stressed that the private security companies were the biggest source of corruption and when the issue of dissolving of these companies were taken up, they did not took any action for their dissolution for almost five years and the contracts are also the source of corruption.
He added that I do not think that the administrative co irruption is reduced till the existence of the US contracts and their other allies in Afghanistan.
