President Ghani Denounces Attack on APPF Spokesman

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani vehemently denounced the terrorist attack that took place yesterday morning in 8th district of Kabul and resulted in martyring three people including Zia Wadan, Spokesman of the National Public Protection Force of Ministry of Interior.

President Ghani said targeting patriotic, committed and dedicated personalities is a crime against humanity and Islamic values.

“The spike in violence by the Taliban is against spirit of commitment for peace and indicates that the group still pursues their hawkish attitude to take innocent lives and damage public facilities,” the president said, as quoted in the presidential palace statement.

The President ordered the relevant authorities to arrest the culprits and bring them to justice. He offered his deepest sympathies to the families of the deceased and wished speedy recovery for those who sustained injuries.

According to Kabul police, Zia Wadan was martyred along with his bodyguard and driver at about 8am local time in a magnetic IED explosion in Karte-Naw in PD8.

“Zia Wadan, the spokesman for the APPF, his bodyguard and driver were martyred in this morning’s IED blast in Shahrak Telaie Township in PD8, Kabul city,” police said.

Ministry of Interior spokesman Tariq Arian confirmed one other person was also wounded. Earlier a security source confirmed that Wadan had been targeted. So far no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

This comes after a number of MPs said the continuation of explosions and targeted killings in the country, especially in Kabul, have left the people frustrated, scared and angry. Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry stated on Saturday that serious security measures have been taken to prevent attacks.
