Monday November 19, 2012
Kabul (BNA) At the commission on religious, culture, education and higher education affairs led by Kamal Nasir in presence of Minister of Information and Culture, deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology, head of the consulting board of the attorney general office and head of the units of local organs department, the banning of the Khost radio was discussed.
The commission asked the Minister of Information and Culture to shed light on seizure and banning of the Khost radio.
The Minister told the commission members that I was informed that the Khost radio has been besieged at the instruction of Governor of the province and it was expected to close down.
I discussed this issue with the police commander and the governor and I stopped this.
According to the head of the commission Abdul Jabar the governor of Khost has dismissed the head of the radio station for reasons that the radio programs reflected the illegal activities of the governor and has assigned another person as acting head of the radio and later the National TV called the actions of the governor as illegal and said that he has no authority interfering in the media.
It was said that the governor rejected the letter of the Khost provincial council and he has acted as a dictator in this respect.
It was also said at this meeting that previously the governor has been introduced to the attorney general office and his file is still pending and mentioned that the governor by payment of money and land has brought some media under his monopoly and those reflecting the interviews of the people threaten them and warm them that they will be introduced to the attorney office there while those people come out innocent after investigations.
The commission decided that the local organs and the attorney office dispatched a delegation to Khost to closely probe into the activities of the governor and asked the ministry of information and culture to try to preserve the freedom of speech and should not allow the governor to interfere in the work of the media foundations.
