“People, Govt. Should Exert Efforts For Prevention of Traffic Accidents”: President Karzai

Kabul (BNA) Addressing the nation in his 15 day radio speech president Karzai said that prevention and reduction of traffic accidents is the duty of the government and the people.
He added that the youth under legal age and without gaining the permit of driving, are sometimes driving cars on the streets that bring about painful traffic accidents.
He asked the parents not to allow their children under the legal age to drive cars and advised the department of traffic to pay precise attention in issuing the driving permit and those who have not completed the age of 18 and are not familiar with the traffic rules and regulations should not given the driving license.
He noted that in the past ten years remarkable economic progress is witnessed and most of the families have got cars.
He recalled the painful traffic accidents of the buses and heavy duty vehicles and added that in the last two months many people have lost their lives in traffic accident in the country’s highways.
He pointed that information is available that the transport companies are encouraging their drivers to move in speed and this has caused shocking incidents.
He stressed that he has instructed the transport ministries to regulate with the transport companies, the start and the extent of speed and time of reaching to their destinations and any one violating the regulations and cause incidents should dealt legally and prevention of these accident is the great task of the government departments as well as the transport companies.
