Helmand Pomegranate Yields Increased

Lashkargah (BNA) Pomegranate yields increased in southern Helmand province compare to the last year, BNA reported.
According to the figures, four thousand, four hundred and sixty-five thousand tons of pomegranate were produced in almost one thousand sixty-five hectares of land in Helmand, while that number was reached to twenty thousand tons last year, BNA added.
Officials said, working with orchards, teaching farmers with modern methods of cultivation and expansion of the pomegranate plantations area across the Helmand were the main reasons for the increase of this fruit in the southern province.
Provincial director of agriculture, irrigation and livestock of Helmand Zulmai Alako told the agency, that among different kinds of pomegranate, 17 types of which are produced with the best quality in a short period of time.
Alako said they continue to educate and help gardeners on new gardening methods, adding that hundreds of new orchards to be created next year to further increase pomegranate yields in Helmand, according to the agency.
Gardeners in Helmand told BNA, that their products have more domestic consumer and being less exported to global markets.
