MoFA Welcomes Appointment of James Dobbins

Kabul (BNA) The Afghan Foreign Ministry (MoFA) welcomed the appointment of James Dobbins as US Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Janan Mosazai spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that appointment of this experienced US diplomat as US Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan can bring about better outcome for Afghanistan and the region.
The US 70-year-old American formerly served as US deputy secretary of state in European and affairs and US ambassador to the EU and lately he served as chairman of international policy center in security affairs.
James Dobbins served as US representative to Bosnia Herragovena, Haiti and Somalia during the presidential term of Bill Clinton and George W Bush.
After the attacks of 11 September of 2001 he was appointed as the US representative for the opposition of the then regime in Afghanistan and later he had taken part in formation of interim government following the collapse of Taliban in Afghanistan as well.
The post for US Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan was created in 2009 and initially Richard Holbrooke served as the first US Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan.
