IEC Announces Preliminary Election Results

Kabul (BNA) Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai has secured lead in partial vote results for run-off presidential election by securing 56.44 percent of total votes, while Dr. Abdullah has secured 43.56 percent of the total votes which is equivalent to 8,194,093. The Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan (IEC) on Monday released the preliminary vote results for the run-off election which was conducted on 14th June. IEC chief, Ahmad Yousuf Nuristan released the preliminary vote results after almost four hours of delay. Nuristani admitted technical problems and fraud in the second round of election. He also added that a number of high level and low government officials including governors and government employees has interfered in elections process. Dr. Abdullah said the election process should be inspected well, while, Dr. Ashraf Ghani welcomes the preliminary result of election. Nuristani said that in this process 38 percent women attended. He added that over 8 million people attended in this process. The difference of vote between the two presidential runners is 1024000 votes. It is mentionable that the final result of run-of election would be proclaimed after two weeks.
