NSC Praises ANSF Coordination In Run-off Security

Kabul (BNA) Presided over by Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, National Security Council’s (NSC) session was held yesterday at presidential palace.
According to presidential press office to BNA, in the session, after hearing reports delivered by officials of security organs related to the successfully holding of the presidential runoff election, NSC praised Afghanistan National Security Forces (ANSF) for their efforts and coordination in maintaining security during the election runoff, considering it as significant step towards professionalism of the countries of security forces.
On the other hand, the country’s security officials recalled that cooperation of the people of Afghanistan was unique for repulsing and defying the terrorists’ possible attacks during the Election Day and based on the people’s cooperation with security forces, most of the enemies’ attacks had been foiled. NSC also praised the people for cooperation in maintaining of security on the election’s day. The council appreciated media for playing positive role in the national process. In relevant security reports of the election, NSC condemned continuation of Pakistan rocket attacks on Afghanistan’s eastern areas, asserting the act did show that Pakistani military forces had acted unlike pledges offered by the country’s officials related to cooperation towards holding Afghanistan presidential runoff election.
In the session, Minister of National Defense briefed the session related to buying three Antonov (EN-140) aircrafts from Ukraine.
He asserted due to political changes and recent problems in Ukraine, a company which had been responsible for selling and transferring the aircrafts cancelled the agreement. Therefore, Ministry of National Defense was in touch with other foreign companies and the report would be delivered in upcoming NSC session.
At the end of the session, NSC discussed on issue of providing light weapons for VIP of MoI through private companies. It was decided that buying and providing needed arms for security forces should be carried out through government channel based on the previous decisions and the delivered suggestion was rejected.
