Kabul (BNA) Newly appointed Afghan ambassador to Tajikistan Lieutenant General Mohammad Zahir Aghbar says Afghanistan and Tajikistan has sharing common culture and history and the two friendly neighbors needed to do more to boost the bilateral ties.
Addressing the embassy diplomats in Dushanbe, Aghbar said Tajikistan was an important country and enjoys significant geopolitical position among central Asian countries, adding Afghanistan should utilize such opportunity and improve bilateral trade, culture and security as well as improve the people to people contact.
Meanwhile in separate meetings with Afghan culturists and traders based in Dushanbe, the ambassador vowed to address their problems, asking them to do more for enhancing bilateral cultural and trade ties.
Calling Tajikistan, a good friend and partner in all areas, ambassador Aghbar said Afghanistan was a permanent friend of Tajikistan, adding much needed to improve the bilateral cooperation.
Afghanistan and Tajikistan share a roughly 1,300-kilometer border, most of which is in rugged terrain and is poorly protected.
In January 2007, with funding from the United States, Afghanistan and Tajikistan opened a bridge over the Pyanj River linking the two countries. The goal behind construction of the bridge was to improve trade ties between the two countries.
