President Ghani, CE Abdullah Meet SIGAR Director

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met John Sopko, director of Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) and his team here in Arg yesterday, the President Press Office said in a statement. 
During the meeting Mr. Sopko briefed the president about the agency’s investigations on corruption, misusing authorities and US financial contracts in Afghanistan over the past 14 years, the statement further said. Mr. Sopko also expressed support to Afghanistan government’s decisions with regard to bringing reforms and reducing corruption announced last year, saying SIGAR is ready to cooperate with Afghanistan government in fighting corruption. The president for his part, thanked SIGAR over its operations in Afghanistan and sought its cooperation in returning Kabul Bank capital if taken to foreign countries, especially, the United States of America. President Ghani also noted that Afghanistan government wants more cooperation in fighting corruption and bringing reforms to ensure good governance and put an end to the culture of immunity from punishment.  According to another report, Chief Executive, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah in a similar meeting with SIGAR director here in Sapidar Palace yesterday exchanged views on new steps taken by the Afghan government to curb corruption. The chief executive said that the government of national unity has fought against corruption and would continue to fight the menace. Appreciating the government steps in fighting corruption, the official said that curbing corruption is vital for continuation of the Afghanistan’s international partner in future.
