European Observers To Monitor Afghanistan Elections

Kabul (BNA) In a statement, the head of foreign policy of European Union (EU) has said that observers from EU would monitor the presidential and provincial councils’ elections slated for next month.
In a statement released yesterday, Ms. Kathrin Ashton said that a 15-member observer team under Yatas Birman a law maker from Holland would visit Afghanistan to monitor the elections.
She also described the coming elections very important, saying this would the first time in the history of Afghanistan that political transition is taking place in a democratic way.
According to the independent election commission some 300,000 national and international observers would monitor the election process in Afghanistan.
