Poppy Eradication Campaign Started In Helmand

Lashkrgah (BNA) Poppy eradication campaign was started yesterday in Helmand province. 
According to local officials for Helmand province, the campaign aims at eradication of nearly 2000 hectare lands in the province. 
The officials confirmed that poppy has been cultivated in nearly 50,000 hectare lands in the province. 
In a ceremony held for eradication of poppy in Tarkha area of Marja district, Mohammad Gulab Mangal, governor of Helmand said, “Poppy eradication campaign has now been officially started in the province.”
According to the governor, nearly 2000 hectare lands are to be eradicated during this program. 
He added during the current year, despite that poppy is eradicated the growers are also detained and handed over to justice. 
Governor of Helmand said the program was to be implemented in ten districts including Lashkargah, capital city of Helmand. 
According to the governor, the program will be implemented with help of Afghan police, Afghan national army and in some areas the coalition forces.
