ARTF, WB Approves 3 Projects Worth $793m

KABUL (BNA) The Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund (ARTF) Management Committee and the World Bank approved three projects totaling $793 million.

The World Bank said in a statement on Friday that the projects will provide essential food, livelihood, and health services to the people of Afghanistan.

The World Bank has said the projects will be administrated by UN agencies in Afghanistan and non-governmental organizations, adding to the statement that Afghan women and girls would benefit most from the project activities.

The projects comprise Food Emergency Assistance, Livelihoods and Improvements Project, and the Emergency Health Response Project in Afghanistan.

According to the World Bank, with the start of the Food Emergency Aid Project, Afghan farmers will be able to produce wheat and other food products to grow people’s access to food.

The livelihood project and the improvement of living conditions create short-term livelihood opportunities in urban and rural areas and provide basic services to the needy.

The quality and availability of health services will also rise through the Urgent Response Project. The project will be applied in 2300 health centers with the aim of fighting the coronavirus, polio and providing basic services for children and mothers.

The World Bank suspended four projects in March this year in response to the failure to reopen all girls’ schools in Afghanistan.

The World Bank said that work on three projects in the health, agriculture, and livelihood sectors would resume, but no decision had been made on spending $150 million on education projects, in April of the current year, quoted Reuters.
