‘Hosting Countries Should Behave With Afghan Refugees Under International Laws,’ Rabbani

Kabul (BNA) Afghanistan Foreign Minister, Salahuddin Rabbani, at the threshold of the United National General Assembly in New York asked the hosting countries to behave with the Afghan refugees under the international norms, his office said in a statement the other day.
Related to the pathetic condition of the Afghan refugees, the country’s foreign minister said that his country was well aware of what he called a complicated challenges related to the world immigrants issue.
“The legacy of more than two decades of war and violence brought a condition that caused millions of Afghan women and children leave their homes and seek refuge abroad,” said Rabbani adding since the beginning of the contemporary history of Afghanistan in 2001, millions of Afghans returned home, indicating the great figure of the Afghans from abroad, with the remaining millions are still suffering refuge challenges in other countries.
“I want to emphasize that the hosting nations should equally behave with all world refugees including the Afghans under the international laws of humanitarian and human rights and respect,” the statement quoted the minister as saying.
He said his country knows how social and economic development could inclusively pave the way for final guarantee to find solution for the challenges faced by the refugees and internally displaced people (IDP). “We are working on improvement of the people in the villages and districts of the country, so we are waiting for the Brussels Conference which is expected to be held in the next two weeks, hoping the
international community’s renewed commitments from its cooperation for implementation of a peace and national development aimed at helping us reach self-sufficiency during the transformation decade.
The country’s foreign minister, alongside the UNGA met with a number of the member countries’ foreign ministers such as Canada and British and exchanged views related to the current key issues.
Both Canadian and British foreign ministers assured him of his country’s full support in different fields as well as his country’s high ranking delegation participation in the Brussels Summit on Afghanistan issue.
The British foreign minister also reassured that his country would stay alongside Afghanistan cooperating it in different aspects.
Both Afghanistan and British foreign ministers asked each other to visit the two countries in appropriate times.
