Kabul (BNA) Second-Vice President Mohammad Sarwar Danesh has warned that the tension between Iran and US would destabilize the region and disturb peace process in Afghanistan, if not controlled, his office said Sunday.
He said the tension could be overcome via diplomatic sources.
In a meeting with the British Ambassador to Afghanistan Alison Blake the vice-president said both UK and Afghanistan have historical relations and called for the further expansion of mutual cooperation between the two nations, the statement quoted. About the recent changes in the region, the vice-president went on as saying that the situation was very fragile, but expressed optimism for the reduction of tension via diplomatic channel between Iran and the US.
He called the position of Afghanistan on the current crisis as 'reduction of tension between the two countries via diplomatic efforts,' as he believed creating crisis by any sides would destabilize the region and overshadow peace process in Afghanistan.
The vice-president asked the regional countries, Britain and the European Union member countries for doing more to control the situation as according to him, the situation would go out of control, if gets critical, the statement added.
Alison, the British Ambassador to Afghanistan, meanwhile called extremism the main element behind instability and disruption of relations among the world countries and said specific and obligatory international mechanisms have been suggested for tackling similar events and called all sides duty-bound to abide by their international commitments in this respect. She said her UK, alongside other world countries, was in touch at a high-level with both US and Iran to prevent any move that leads to creating tension in the region.
