First Lady Asks For Counterdrug Efforts

Kabul (BNA) The country’s First Lady Rula Ghani attended a ceremony that celebrated the International Solidarity Day of Counter Narcotics, where she urged the nation to unite against drug addiction and support awareness campaigns.
She said drug addiction damages the society and that stern action should be taken against this menace.”We all have the responsibility to raise public awareness about the harms of the use of drugs,” she told the gathering.
The First Lady said she is concerned about the increasing drug addiction in the country and that the people should pay all their efforts to enhance public awareness about damages of this practice.
The Minister of Counter-Narcotics Salamat Azimi also called for wider public cooperation to combat the drug production and smuggling networks in the country.
According to another report, a ceremony was held jointly by the ministries of education, information and culture and counter narcotic to include the risks of drug into curriculum of the ministry of education.
Dr. Asadullah Mohaqiq deputy minister for MoE said that they have taken the steps in close cooperation with UNESCO to include the risks of the drug and addiction into curriculum of the Ministry of Education to further raise awareness on such ugly phenomenon in the society. Meanwhile, addressing the ceremony, Dr. Kamal Sadat acting minister of information and culture called on youth to mobilize themselves for counter narcotic, expressing readiness to assist ministry of counter narcotic on awareness campaigns. Hinting to importance of the Ministry of Education in reducing the number of addictions in the country, the deputy minister of counter narcotic Ahmad Jawid said that drug makes the huge income for the enemies of the country. At the end gifts were distributed to those high school students who have made the best wall gazettes.
