Migration Creating Bitter Memories To Migrants

Monday December 18, 2017

Kabul (BNA) 18th December coincides with International Migrants Day. The United Nations nominated the day as International Migrants Day due to increasing migrants toll in the world. Now, millions of people have left their countries to overcome adversity and to live a better life. The day is celebrated in most of countries every year and besides celebration of the day, causes of migrations are also discussed.
Afghanistan is among countries which has a large number of migrants worldwide. Currently, thousands of Afghan migrants who have left their country due to instability and increasing insecurities are living in Europe.
Most of Afghans wish to leave their country for a better life. Other reasons that have forced Afghans to migrate to other countries are poverty, insecurity, disappointment, violence, scare from armed insurgents and inequality. 30% of those Afghans who have arrived in Europe have told the UN they had lived in Afghanistan as domestic displaced, so they have preferred to leave their country rather than stay and live in their country. Migration has created bitter memories as hundreds of migrants have drowned in seas.
On the other hand, if we have spent billions of dollars funded by hundreds thousands of Afghan migrants for European countries in economic development, development projects, employment and reconstruction of the country, our country undoubtedly won’t be facing with current situation. But, what causes the migration to European countries? The question has one simple answer and that is increasing insecurity in Afghanistan.
Afghanistan is now facing with increasing problems of migration, narcotics, internal displacements and war on terrorism. It is the responsibility of the UN to prevent from wave of migrations in Afghanistan and find legal ways for repatriation in accordance to World Migration Convention by perceiving current situation in the country. Repatriation of refugees is followed by various challenges as insecurity, unemployment and lack of shelter.
In an agreement signed in Oct 2016 between Afghanistan and European Union, legal repatriation of Afghan migrants to Afghanistan was specified. To prevent a migrant flow of the size experienced in 2015, the deal commits the EU to help fund public awareness campaigns in Afghanistan warning against the dangers of migrating.
Migration is a legal right of humanity and everybody can settle anywhere in the world but with particular norms and in accordance to international conventions. No country has the right to deport refugees by force and its refugees who can return voluntarily their home countries.
Nevertheless, Afghanistan has the highest graph of migration and the situation has deteriorated due to increasing insecurities in the country which has suffered heavy human and economic losses because of migration phenomenon.
