Dr. Abdullah Stresses Inter-Ministerial Cooperation for Countering Natural Disasters

Kabul (BNA) Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah chaired extraordinary meeting of the committee for counter disasters here at the Sapidar Palace yesterday.
According to BAN report, the meeting discussed recent natural disasters in Kabul, Parwan and a number of other provinces. At the outset, state minister for counter disasters Najib Aqa Fahim said recent rainfall caused heavy damages to farmers in some provinces of the country. He said recent rains resulted to closure of Kabul-Nangarhar and Kabul-Bamyan highways as well as caused damages to farmers in a number of Kabul districts. “Based on our survey 103 districts and 313 villages are in serious threats of natural disasters,” the minister said. He added the country’s highways would be also under serious threats of natural disasters which he asked for cooperation of the line ministers and organs. According to minister 30 million USD needed to counter the threats where his led ministry has only 26 million dollar.
Hearing the ministry’s reports, Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah instructed ministries of finance and transport to extend cooperation with the state ministry of counter disasters. Dr. Abdullah also said the needed budget for the ministry would be allocated and stressed on proper planning for countering the threats in upcoming winter season. Meanwhile, representative of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said strategy to address vulnerable families was prepared and based on that healthcare facilities, potable water and food items would be eased to the families.
