US Supports Afghan-led Peace Talks: Envoy

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met with US special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan here the other day, a presidential statement said.
US special envoy, Richard G. Olson, briefed President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on advancement of the peace talks, in particular the result of the quadrilateral ones held in Pakistan recently.
According to the presidential statement, the US special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan assured of his country’s support of Afghan-led peace talks, adding that his country would not hesitate any efforts aiming to bring peace in Afghanistan.
Praising US assistance in different spheres to Afghanistan, President Ghani thanked US support of Afghan-led peace talks and called the US and China’s observer role crucial in peace process.
Terming the long-term peace in the country as the main expectation of all Afghans, President Ghani said that terrorism is a common threat to Afghanistan, Pakistan and the whole region, adding that joint efforts needed to overcome current security challenges.
According to another report, the Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah also met with US special envoy on Afghanistan and Pakistan and discussed the advances of the Afghan-led peace talks.
