CASA 1000 Project To Begin In May

ALMAATA (BNA) Energy ministers of Afghanistan, Kirghizstan, Tajikistan and Pakistan in an inter-governmental  session of CASA 1000 project have finalized last decisions and documents for implementation and execution of the project.
Based on the request of Tajikistan, it is determined that the project will officially be opened on May 12, 2016 in a ceremony with participation of high-ranking government officials of the respective countries, representatives of development banks, donor countries and supportive organizations in Tajikistan. In the ceremony, chief executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah will participate on behalf of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. CASA 1000 is one the biggest regional and central Asian projects introduced for the first time by Regional Economic Cooperation Conference process in 2005. The project will transmit electricity from Kirghizstan and Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan. It is worth mentioning that the total budget for the project is estimated nearly 1.17 billion USD to be funded by World Bank, USA, Britain, European Investment Bank and Islamic Development Bank. Afghanistan will get 45 million USD annually from transit of the energy to Pakistan.
