Kabul (BNA) Chief Executive, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah met the Chinese Chief of Army Staff, General Fang Fenghui here yesterday and exchanged views on matters relating mutual interests including military cooperation and the war on terror as well as the cooperation among Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and Tajikistan.
The chief executive expressed gratitude to China over its contribution to Afghanistan over the past years and the ongoing peace process, saying Afghanistan and China have many commonalities and can overcome the problems through joint cooperation. Afghanistan is a victim of terrorism, Abdullah said, adding terrorism posing threat to the whole region and the world and overcoming the menace requires the world cooperation. In his remarks, the Chinese dignitary described Afghanistan as a good neighbor of his country and said Beijing attaches importance for its relations with Kabul. Peace in Afghanistan will increase economic opportunities in the region, the official noted. The chief of army staff of China also noted that rooting out of terrorism needs regional cooperation, saying terrorism does not recognize any border and overcoming the evil needs regional struggle. According to another report, the chief executive in a meeting with US Central Command’s Chief, General James Austin here yesterday and exchanged views on military cooperation of NATO and coming military cooperation of US with Afghanistan. Afghanistan has hugely achieved with the support of the international community over the more than a decade, Dr. Abdullah said, adding Afghanistan needs continued support of the body to achieve its goal. The US military official in the meeting assured his country’s continued support to Afghanistan.
