Kabul (BNA) Addressing lawmakers, acting minister of Finance on Wednesday said the World Bank and the international community had pledged $300 million in assistance to the Afghans in need amid Covid-19 crisis.
Acting finance minister Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal on Wednesday briefed the Wolesi Jirga or lower house of parliament about amendment in 1399 fiscal year’s budget plan.
He said the distribution of bread to poor people in the country had come to an end, but another program was under work that would provide food packages or cash assistance to needy people in the country.
The Afghan government after the outbreak of coronavirus and public lockdowns, started distribution of bread to people suffering from poverty in the country, but the process stopped after 40 days of its beginning. Arghandiwal said the World Bank and the international community had promised to provide $300 million in aid to Afghans affected by poverty. However, he said the type of the assistance was not yet known. “Two plans including food packages and cash aid to poor people are on the table and it would become clear which one to choose,” he added.
“The government played its part for getting out of the current situation and now it asks the parliament for help to do its job,” he concluded.
