China Announced Emergency Aid of 50m Yuan to Afghan Earthquake Victims

KABUL (BNA): Chinese ambassador to Kabul in a meeting on Saturday with the country’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi handing a letter of condolence, said his country provided emergency aid for the last week’s earthquake victims in the south of Afghanistan.

Ambassador Wang Yu during a meeting with the Afghan Foreign Minister informed about a $200,000 aid provided by MCC Mes Aynak copper mine contractor, he said on his Twitter handle that “Chinese enterprises will definitely fulfill their social responsibilities. the friendship between 2 countries and peoples will be further strengthened,”.

Foreign Minister Muttaqi thanked the letter and thanked the Chinese government and people for their timely and dedicated assistance to Afghanistan in its most difficult times. The Afghan side will distribute aid promptly, fairly, and transparently, according to the Afghan Foreign Ministry.

Meanwhile, the Chinese government has decided to provide 50 million yuan (about 7.46 million U.S. dollars) of emergency humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Saturday.

A spokesman for Wang Wenbin made the remarks in response to a question about the progress of China’s emergency humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.

Aid provided by China, includes tents, sheets, convertible beds, and other materials urgently needed by the Afghan people, said a Chinese Counsellor. The first batch of aid is scheduled to be shipped by charter flight on June 27.

The earthquake that struck Afghanistan on Wednesday is the most powerful earthquake to shake southern Khost, Paktia, Paktika, and some other provinces in more than 20 years. The incident has killed at least 1,200 people, injured more than 2,000, and destroyed more than 2,000 houses.
