China Pledges Financial Support for Trilateral Railway Project

KABUL (BNA) China declared that it will financially support the construction of the Mazar Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway line as a large transit project.

China’s special representative for Afghanistan, Yue Xiaoyong, said on Tuesday, during Tashkent international conference on Afghanistan, that China is ready to support major regional transit projects, including the Termez-Mazar-e-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway.

The Termez-Mazar-e-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway project will connect Central Asia to western China.

Beijing sees Afghanistan as a bridge between Central and South Asia, said Interfax, quoting, Yue Xiaoyong.

In 2018, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Pakistan signed an agreement on the construction of the Tirmaz-Mazar-e-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway project and finalized the road map document for this line in February 2021.

The railway project is 573 kilometers long and can transport 20 million tons of goods in one year.
