MoFA Holds Elections-Day Security Briefing

Kabul (BNA) Ministry of Foreign Affairs convened a meeting to brief embassies and international organizations on the security measures during elections, a statement from MoFA told yesterday.
Deputy and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Idrees Zaman chaired a meeting attended by Afghanistan’s high security officials, Kabul-based ambassadors and representatives of the International organizations, including NATO, OIC and AKDN, the statement added.
The acting foreign minister delivering the welcoming remarks regarded the security measures to be in place as the most important part of the preparations.  The Interior Minister, in his opening remarks, assured the participants of utmost efforts by the police in ensuring secure elections.
The rest of the speakers briefed the participants on issues including elections in remote areas, possible threats as well as preparations and plans for the elections, according to the statement.  The technical briefings were followed by some remakes and questions by the participants, the statement said.
