President Ghani Insists On Registration Of Officials’ Capitals

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani chaired the High Economic Council (HEC) meeting here the other day, a presidential statement said, adding that at the outset, the Minister of Finance briefed the session on his meeting with the director of the International Monetary Fund in New Delhi, discussing good governance, economic development, rooting out of poverty and employment. The Minister of Finance went on saying that a draft law has been sent to lower house of the parliament for better bringing accountability, fight against corruption and registration of government officials’ capitals.
Talking in the session, the second vice president Mohammad Sarwar Danesh said that he sees no problem with the current law on fighting corruption, adding that the officials’ capitals could be registered based on that. The second VP went on saying that the capacity of the office on oversight and anti-corruption should be improved so that to accelerate the registration of the government officials’ capitals. Meanwhile, the president said that there is a need for a joint working group with the lower house of the parliament so that to finalize the legal process of the law on fighting corruption, adding that all government officials’ capitals should be registered.
According to the president, the fight against corruption could not be limited to advertisement, but requires practical steps, adding that there is a need for a judicial and justice organ so that to review the cases of the land usurpers, corrupt individuals and the capitals of the government officials. The acting minister of Mines and Petroleum presented a report on current natural gas resources in the country. The president said that the ministry’s reports are different, adding that the ministry should conduct a detailed survey of the gas resources in the country and present the report with clear and exact details to the upcoming meetings. The president went on saying that the Ministry of Mines & Petroleum is one of the key ministries of the country, adding that the ministry has the right to adopt practical measures for its capacity building.
