Wednesday, March 15, 2017

Kabul (BNA) As many as 10 insurgents of Haqqani militant faction were killed the other day after Afghan security forces struck their position in the country’s eastern province of Paktika, the Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.
“On Monday evening, a top commander of the Haqqani terrorist network along with nine others killed and two others wounded in a targeted airstrike of the Afghan Air Force,” the ministry said in a statement.
The statement did not disclose the identity of the killed commander, only saying that the airstrike occurred in Dara-e-Shinki village, Zirok district in the province, 155 km south of Kabul.
As a Taliban-linked group of militants, the Haqqani network mostly operating in eastern provinces and capital Kabul, has been responsible for many high-profile attacks against security forces.
The strike also destroyed two vehicles together with light and heavy rounds of ammunition, the statement noted.
“The Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) have stepped up counter-terrorism operations with improved close-air support to suppress the insurgency activities of the anti-government armed militant groups,” the statement added.
