IECC Optimistic On “Audit of All Votes”

Monday, July 14, 2014
Kabul (BNA) The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) has welcomed the agreement between the two candidates to audit all of the votes cast for the election runoff, breaking the impasse which could lead to crises.
IECC spokesman Nadir Mohsini stated yesterday that IECC welcomed any action which would be in favor of national interests and acceptable to the people of Afghanistan.
He declared IECC would oversee the audit process and would announce the final decision based on the laws of Afghanistan. Sunday evening US State Secretary John Kerry after 48-hours of negotiations with Abdullah Abdullah and Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai announced the electoral impasse was broken as both the candidates agreed on several points including audit of all of the votes.
John Kerry arrived Friday in Kabul to break the deadlock after Abdullah boycotted the counting process and warned of establishing a parallel government.
