Danesh Meets US Ambassador To Afghanistan

Wednesday, February 11, 2015 Kabul (BNA) The Second Vice President, Sarwar Danesh met US ambassador to Afghanistan here yesterday and exchanged views on matters relating mutual interests, BNA reported. In the meeting, the vice president besides thanking US for its cooperation with Afghanistan over the past years said that Afghanistan is in better situation than the past. He also added that the government of national unity is determined to fight corruption and ensure good governance. The vice president said that consultation meetings with concerned entities are going on to bring reforms in the election system. On the security situation, Danesh stated that terrorists are attempting to destabilize the country but the government would foil their designs. In the meeting, the US ambassador assured Washington support and said the US would stand alongside Afghanistan as long as Afghan government needed. According to another report, the vice president Danesh in meeting with the association of lawyers discussed the issue of bringing reforms to the election system here yesterday. The lawyers stressed that past experiences demands fair reforms in the electoral systems. Meantime, the second vice president in meeting with a number of displaced people from central part of Ghazni province said that the government is planning to provide shelter to the homeless and displaced people. According to another report the heads of provincial councils of the 34 provinces called on the second vice president Danesh and demanded restoration of their right to monitor local governments’ performances. Describing the role of provincial councils members very important for monitoring and checking corruption at local governments level, the vice president said that the problem on having the right of monitoring by provincial councils is solvable.
