Afghan Army Arrests 3 Suspects, Destroys Cache of Weapons

Kabul (Xinhua) Afghan National Army (ANA) personnel arrested three suspected terrorists and destroyed a huge cache of weapons in eastern province of Logar, the country's Defense Ministry said Sunday.
"An ANA's Special Operations Forces' unit supported by Afghan Air Force launched an operation in Azra district of Logar province. As a result, three suspected terrorists were arrested and a huge cache of weapons was safely destroyed," the ministry said in a statement, without disclosing the time of the operation.
The army personnel have established a cordon to keep secure the scenes where the weapons cache was located.
Among huge quantity of arms and ammunition destroyed were 50,000 kg of ammonium nitrate which has been used in making improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and roadside bombs, one artillery gun, two heavy machine guns, 13 boxes of heavy machine gun bullets, 10 rounds of artillery gun shells.
Two vehicles and 53,000 kg of hashish were also destroyed following the raid.
The national army remains committed to secure communities and works diligently to provide security for Afghans across the country, the ministry noted.
