Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Sunday laid the foundation stone of a hostel at the Nimroz University, besides attending the inauguration ceremony for sending the first shipment of goods to India through the Chabahar port in Iran, a statement from the Presidential Palace said yesterday. Local and military officials, elders and youth welcomed the president at the Nimroz airport. Later on, the president laid the foundation stone of the hostel, said the statement. Eng. Abdul Baqi Omar, in charge of the project, welcomed the president to Nimroz. The five-story facility will have 180 rooms, with capacity for 12,00 students. The hostel will be built in one year at a cost of 150 million Afghanis.
“Laying the foundation stone of this hostel is special pride for me and I assure the youth of Nimroz of a modern and well-equipped accommodation facility within one year,” the statement quoted President Ghani as saying. The president said he had created a special operating unit at the Presidential Palace to pay serious heed to provinces and address their issues. Historical palaces, including the Darul Aman Palace and hostels, were being built by the unit, the president added. President Ghani told the project head: “Thanks for your services and strengthening oversight. Nimroz is a developed province in terms of economy and we have also planned major projects here,” the president concluded.
According to another report, President Ghani also laid foundation stones for Grand Masjid (Mosque) and the praying hall in Nimroz province. The two-story Grand Masjid to be built in areas of one thousand-meter squares and the praying hall in areas of 1200 squares meters with the total cost of 87 million Afghanis and would be finished within one year, the statement quoted Eng. Abdul Baqi Omar as saying. Addressing the gathering, acting minister of Hajj and Religious Affairs Abdul Hakim Munib thanked President’s special attention to restoration and construction of the mosques in the country. Congratulating Nimroz people, President Ghani said this was the main duty of an Islamic country to pay serious attentions towards restoration and construction of its Masjids. “Masjids of the 20 provinces to be built by the Presidential Palace Operation Unit and they are needed to consider historic and Islamic cultures while their construction.” The president said besides construction of the Masjids, praying halls which are essential also to be built within one year in many provinces, the statement concluded.
