House of People Discussed IEC Duties, Competences

Kabul (BNA) The House of People in its session chaired by first deputy Mir Wais Yasini discussed the ways of distributing voting cards especially in Kandahar and non-distribution of cards in the districts of Nawa, Qarabagh, Zanakhan and Ajristan of Ghazni, the penetration of Pakistan forces in border areas, increasing security incidents in Farah, Saripul and Kunar provinces, and drew the attention of concerned organs to the above issues.
As per agenda, the law for the formation, obligations and the duties of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) came under discussion.
Drafted in five chapters and 35 articles by the joint commissions of House of People and Senate and had been sent to President for endorsement.
However, the president citing eight reasons did not approve it and sent it back to the House of People.
The house has decided to amend the law and send it back to the president for endorsement.
At the meantime, some lawmakers were of the view that since the president has rejected the law, the House of People should take decision in this regard with two third of its members.
